News site standards and participation guidelines

The aim of this news site is to provide a moderated forum carrying news about the future of television, led by farncombe consultants.

Posts will generally relate to but not be limited to: digital TV on cable, satellite, terrestrial, mobile and Internet platforms (both managed and un-managed), generally with a focus on the UK, Europe and the rest of the world (in that order).

We expect all participants to abide by the following guidelines:

1. While we welcome vigorous debate, the idea of this news site is to discuss the future of television in an intelligent, analytical and revelatory way. ‘Ad hominem’ arguments – by which we mean disagreeing with someone merely on account of who they are, rather than what they say, detracts from this aim, and will be frowned upon.

2. Please respect other people’s views, even when you think they are wrong, misled or just plain stupid. Again, vigorous debate is expected, but we will consider removing statements that other participants will find extremely offensive or threatening, particularly if they descend into obscene or abusive language. Personal attacks will be not allowed, nor will any material which is sexist, racist, or homophobic.

3. Farncombe is an international company with global clients, and it is therefore to be expected that the audience of this site will be an international one. However, we conduct our relationship with this global market in English, and thus the language of this site is English, too. We will consider removing any contributions that will not be understood by the majority of the audience.

4. We will remove any contributions that could put place farncombe at risk of legal action, e.g. by defaming a person or organizations, or through slander of goods, or which may breach copyright.

5. We will also delete entries or comments that are blatantly promotional, commercial, or amount to spam. Our aim is to provide a forum for the TV industry to interact with farncombe and each other, and we will take a dim view of any commercial organization seeking to disguise itself as an individual.

6. Remember the long tail. The content of this news site will be archived both on the site itself and on search-engines. So once you have published your post or comment, it will stay there. We cannot retrospectively delete contributions just because you decide that, with hindsight, perhaps you should not have said something (except if you can demonstrate it puts us in legal jeapordy).

7. We will bend over backwards not to editorially intervene in any contribution – but if you post a comment that has nothing to do with the topic at all, we may remove it in the interests of keeping the discussion meaningful.

8. This is intended to be a venue for intelligent discussion, and we hope you will help us keep it so by alerting us to any potential issues, or intervening yourselves where necessary.

9. Participants who are in repeated breach of these guidelines or our terms and conditions will be blocked from contributing.
